Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

The department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy accomplishes the task of medical care of the population of Mannheim. For that we developed a varied offer of therapy that is orientated according to the symptoms, age and possibilities of everyday life of the patients. Besides in-patient treatment we offer treatment in our day clinics as well as diagnostics and therapy in out-patient departments.

The different concepts of the in-patient wards departments usually integrate psychopharmacological and behaviour therapeutic methods.

The attending physicians coordinate the treatment. Therapy groups on the wards and in our department of rehabilitation aim at the development of activities that are needed in everyday live. Additionally, our qualified nursing staff, social workers and physiotherapists contribute to the individual treatment.

The hospital has three open wards with 23 respectively 12 beds, two protected wards with 12 beds, as well as an psychiatric intensive care unit with 10 beds.

Treatment in our day clinics is offered separately for patients older than 65 years and for younger chronically ill patients.

For the diagnosis and therapy of specific problems our psychiatric psychotherapeutic out-patient treatment offers consulting hours and special outpatient treatment (click here).

Often it is important to give advice and psychoeducation about the diseases to the families of our patients as well. For this we offer groups for the families of schizophrenic patients and Alzheimer patients.
