Our research focuses on the question of the interaction of brain and behavior, in particular the question of how behavior and experience influence neural processes and vice versa, i.e. how neural processes influence behavior and experience. On the one hand, we examine this question in healthy subjects by testing the acquisition of associative links in the cortex and in subcortical structures. On the other hand, we analyze dysfunctions of these transmission processes in psychological, psychophysiological and organic disorders as, for example, posttraumatic stress disorder, chronic pain and stroke. A further focus of our research is the development of adequate assessment instruments and new behaviorally oriented interventions for phantom pain or the long-term effects of stroke.
