The Department for Addictive Behaviour and Addiction Medicine currently provides inpatient beds and day-care places. Here, patients with alcohol addiction, illegal drug addiction (cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine, etc. except heroin), prescription drug addiction (benzodiazepines, opiate painkillers, etc.) and pathological gambling are treated. In addition to inpatient treatment, day care treatment, diagnostics and therapy are offered in an opiate maintenance program (= methadone outpatient clinic) and a general addiction outpatient clinic. On the wards and in the addiction day care clinic a qualified, psychosocial withdrawal program of alcohol, illegal drugs (except heroin) and prescription drug addiction is carried out. Treatment in our clinic is acute treatment (not rehabilitation) and is covered by the German public health insurance, usually after referral by a general practitioner or specialist. It consists of a combination of psychotherapeutic treatment and medication, possibly supplemented by social work counselling and occupational therapy. Accordingly, a team of doctors, psychologists, occupational therapists, specialist nurses for psychiatry, physiotherapists and social workers is involved in the treatment. The attending physicians are specialists in psychiatry and psychotherapy or are undergoing further training, so that additional psychiatric conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety disorder) can also be treated professionally.

Following the treatment of withdrawal symptoms, our qualified detoxification program aims at supporting patients in their effort to live free of addictive substances in the future. To this end patients will participate in individual and group psychotherapy, attend information seminars, skills training sessions, relaxation exercises, sports, occupational therapy and socio-therapy. In addition we will also assess and treat complications resulting from alcohol and drug consumption.
Day-hospital for Patients with Addiction Disorders (TK-S)
On weekdays, from 8AM until 4.30PM, our day hospital offers a qualified detoxification program similar to the one conducted on our inpatient wards. The program requires that patients are able to cope with spending evenings and weekends alone. However, this approach also provides near real-life situations allowing patients to immediately transfer newly acquired behavior patterns and strategies into their personal environment.
