[Translate to English:] Virtual Reality Kick-Off Meeting: Collaborations and Research Ideas

Goals

Preparing a dataset to (potentially) share it with others is beneficial for you and the research community. Clear and comprehensive documentation will help you to understand your own neuroimaging data even years after staff has left the lab who did the original analysis.

Standards such as the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) developed for fMRI neuroimaging present a clear scheme to structure data files in directories, to provide agreed terminology for naming these files and explains how to provide metadata describing primary research data (Gorgolewski et al., 2016). It is not too difficult to adopt BIDS for your next neuroimaging project. Several tools are available that can be used on BIDS formatted data such as an online BIDS validator (https://bids-standard.github.io/bids-validator/) and a standard fMRI preprocessing pipeline (Esteban et al., 2019). In my presentation, I introduce BIDS to those who might not have heard of it. Additionally, I will present an in-house Matlab-based program (don’t expect too much, it’s work in progress) for automatized import of fMRI data to BIDS. Open science enthusiasts are welcome to discuss how we might take advantage of such tools to make our neuroimaging research at the ZI more openly available in the future.

Target Audience

We aim at active researchers who are either currently launching their own Virtual Reality projects or who are interested in starting VR collaboration projects in the very near future. All research orientations and career levels are welcome.
