Additional Training in Groups at the CPP Mannheim
Additional Training in Groups 2018/19
Aim of Additional Training
Since summer 2015 the CPP Mannheim offers all training elements for acquiring training qualifications in „Psychotherapy in Groups“, in addition to one’s license in “Psychological Psychotherapy” based on behavioral therapy (paragraph 6 section 5, PsychThG).
This further expertise allows psychological psychotherapists in behavioral therapy to give treatments to groups of patients which will be covered by their health insurance.
This training program is mainly offered to training candidates of the CPP Mannheim. Applications for taking part in the curriculum can be made already during the first year of training in psychological psychotherapy. However, in order to conduct group therapies at the outpatient clinics of the CPP Mannheim, candidates need to have successfully completed the intermediate examination.
Depending on resources and the number of participants, licensed psychological psychotherapists who have graduated at the CPP Mannheim/Heidelberg or any other institutes of behavioral therapy, as well as training candidates of any other training institute of behavioral therapy that is registered by the state may be admitted to the training program “Psychotherapy in Groups”.
To obtain the license in behavioral group therapy, proof of the following training components must be proven:
- 48 hours (UE) of theoretical training in group therapy and group dynamics
- 80 UE of self-experience in behavioral therapy in Groups
- 60 double sessions of continuous group treatments in a variety of different groups (one group treatment consists of at least six sessions, i.e. six double sessions)
- Frequent individual or group supervision, i.e. every third to fourth session, 40 hours in total (paragraphs 5 and 6, PsychThG)
Please contact Mrs. Sabrina Fenske via e-mail if you are interested in this training program: sabrina.fenske(at)zi-mannheim.de
Candidates may enter the training program at any time since its schedule is not class bound.
The theoretical training sessions take place on six weekend-workshops. Three of them are completed within the curriculum of the additional training program (24 UE). The remaining 24 UE are completed by external workshops (e.g. in the context of the training in psychological psychotherapy). Contents and schedule of theory seminars given may be slightly adapted. It is not possible to deduce a contract termination respectively.
Training candidates commit themselves to complete all theory seminars within a maximum of two years. It is compulsory to participate in three of the four seminars offered (G3-G6). Participation may be limited to a specific number of candidates and decided upon after firm confirmation for each seminar separately. In order to participate in more than three workshops, additional costs arise (112 € per workshop).

Self-Experience in Groups
A total of 80 UE of personal behavioral therapy experience must be proven. Candidates of the CPP Mannheim will have completed this training component within their general curriculum of psychological psychotherapy. External or already certified candidates may hand in proof of corresponding external programs, respectively.
Practical work comprises of a total number of 60 double sessions which may be conducted as group leader or co-therapist. They can be conducted at the outpatient clinics of the CPP Mannheim, cooperating facilities, in one’s own praxis, or in the context of clinical institutions.
Activities and accomplishments are documented by training participants and have to be proven to the CPP Mannheim according to specific regulations.
Training candidates at the CPP Mannheim may complete the practical part of the training during their practical training in psychological psychotherapy at the outpatient clinics of the CPP Mannheim. These sessions can be either given as a combination of individual and group treatment by the same candidate or candidates may just offer the group treatment. Up to thirty group double sessions can be recognized for the training in psychological psychotherapy. One double session will be counted as an individual session. Accounting will be described in the institution’s regulations.
All group therapy sessions at the CPP Mannheim are to be supervised by recognized supervisors with corresponding qualifications (license in behavioral therapy + additional qualifications in group therapy). At least 40 UE of supervision are to be taken for 80 double sessions of therapy, which are required according to PsychThG. Additional costs may arise.<//span>
