The research group is dealing with the interaction of different risk factors, such as pathological learning processes, genetic susceptibility, personality, behavior, and environmental factors for the development of mental disorders. Furthermore the research group is aiming at identifying factors that prevent from getting mentally ill in spite of existing risk factors. In order to examine these risk and resilience factors on different levels, neuropsychological methods, magnetic resonance imaging, molecular genetic methods, and behavioral tests are conducted. Moreover, the results serve as basis for the development of new instruments, which can easily and quick be applied in large samples (e.g. in schools or sport clubs). These new instruments are validated in new samples in order to develop new diagnostic and preventive methods at the institute.
