We celebrate 50 years of CIMH

The CIMH plays a special role in the history of psychiatry in Germany.

In 1975, the same year that an expert commission of the German Bundestag presented a report on the comprehensive need for reform in the care of mentally ill people, the CIMH began its work. As a model institute for research, patient care and teaching, it was and is our aim to break new ground in order to improve the lives of people with mental illnesses.

Over the past 50 years, patient care and research have developed dynamically. Today, more than 1,700 people work at the CIMH – ten times as many as in 1975 – and they are all working more intensively than ever on our important task of constantly improving the prevention and treatment of mental illness.

The CIMH assumes responsibility. It has an active impact on society and helps to raise awareness of mental illness and reduce prejudice. I would like to recognise and thank the Board of Directors and all employees of the CIMH. The state of Baden-Württemberg will continue to be a reliable partner at your side in the future.

The CIMH has set standards – clinically, scientifically and socially. I hope that the CIMH will continue to be a place where scientific excellence, clinical commitment and social responsibility go hand in hand – for the benefit of patients, for the advancement of our discipline and for the protection of the mental health of our society. The DGPPN is and will remain a reliable partner in this endeavour.

Prof. Dr. Euphrosyne Gouzoulis-Mayfrank | President DGPPN

I would like to congratulate you on 50 years of the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim.
