3. floor, room 302
The research group „Health Services Research in Substance Use Disorders“ belongs to the department of addictive behavior and addiction medicine at the central institute of mental health (CIMH) and to the addiction clinic of the Zentrum für Psychiatrie (ZfP) Nordbaden in Wiesloch. Our goals are:
- investigating the interactions of mental health services with people suffering from substance use disorders.
- Establishing innovative treatment strategies into routine health services provision and evaluating and optimizing the respective processes.
Therefore, subgroups of patients that benefit least from offered health services are investigated. Aside from describing the clinical risk profile, attitudes towards the treatments offered and perceived barriers to seek help are explored.
Lack of insight into the illness and the fear of stigmatization were identified as important barriers for treatment seeking. In addition, offered treatments and subjective treatment goals do not necessarily match. Research suggests that improving illness awareness, reducing stigmatization and considering personal treatment goals improves treatment effectiveness. The research group will focus of these aspects.
The cooperation between the two clinics of the ZfP Nordbaden/Wiesloch and of the CIMH in the previous years laid the groundwork for excellent opportunities of health services research in the field of substance use disorders.
