Mannheim is chosen as the location

The city of Heidelberg is unable to offer a site for the construction of a model institute. The Neuenheimer Feld university campus is already fully planned. The city of Mannheim, on the other hand, focuses on health and social policy. The responsible mayor, Dr. Hans Martini, and Lord Mayor Dr. Hans Reschke show great interest and offer a plot of land in the north of the city, on the edge of the Käfertal forest. The city also offered to have the municipal construction company erect the buildings. However, the financing has not yet been fully clarified. The state and federal government have signaled their participation. A decision is now awaited from the Volkswagenwerk Foundation.
