About me

I am interested in understanding how the brain regulates behaviours and physiological states via neuropeptidergic signaling. My main focus in this respect is currently the role of central arginine vasopressin (AVP) circuits in pain, fear and stress. In addition, I am very interested in the neural plasticity induced by lactation during motherhood, an extreme physiological challenge leading to a complex cellular and circuit-level reorganization in the brain. To study these phenomena, I am applying novel transgenic rat models, viral vectors, chemogenetics, optogenetics, advanced light microscopy, and quantitative 3D image analysis techniques. In addition, I am collaborating on various other projects related with oxytocinergic and vasopressinergic brain circuits.

Quirin holds a PhD in comparative neuroscience (summa cum laude) and an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Biology. He is a senior staff scientist in our team, and he is head of the Core Unit Microscopy at the Core Facility Preclinical Research.
