About me

Raquel completed a Bachelor's degree in Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She then moved to the Netherlands, where she completed a Master's degree in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience at Maastricht University, specialising in fundamental neuroscience. It was her interest in neurodevelopment and psychiatric disorders, combined with her desire to familiarise herself with cutting-edge cell culture technologies such as cerebral organoids, that led her to the Ladewig lab in Mannheim. She wrote her master's thesis there, and after obtaining her MSc, she stayed in the lab to pursue a PhD.

She is currently enrolled on the IZN PhD programme at Heidelberg University, where she continues to expand her research on the development of in vitro reward neurocircuitry using brain organoids. Having lived in Mannheim for several years, she has grown to enjoy the city and the opportunities it offers. In her free time, she enjoys bouldering and going out for food with her colleagues and friends.
