Abount me

I am a cognitive and clinical affective scientist and licensed cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist studying how cognitions shape emotional reactivity, emotion regulation, and resilience. After completing my PhD at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences (University of Geneva), I have worked across affective neuroscience and clinical psychology, using EEG, EMG, and fMRI to investigate the cognitive and neural mechanisms of emotion. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, I am developing an independent research program on appraisal processes, self-referential cognition, and their relevance for mental health.

Research Focus and Expertise

Affective Neuroscience | Emotion Regulation | Emotion Generation: Appraisal Theory | Emotional Expression

  • Cognitive Appraisal Processes in Emotion Generation
Investigation of emotion-eliciting appraisals (e.g., goal congruence, control, power) and their temporal-neural signatures based on the Component Process Model of Emotion (CPM)

  • Emotion Regulation and Emotional Dysregulation
Analysis of adaptive and maladaptive regulation processes (e.g., reappraisal, distraction, embodiment) in healthy and clinical populations.

  • Individual Differences in Emotional Responses
Examination of the relationship between depressive state/trait and responses to self-referential cognitions.

  • Synchronization of Cognition and Facial Expression
Analysis of the temporal coupling between emotion-eliciting appraisals and facial expressive behavior (EEG-EMG)

  • Psychophysiological Markers of Emotion and Regulation
Measurement of emotion-related processes using EEG, EMG, and multimodal stimulus presentation to study emotion generation and implicit emotion regulation.

  • Semantic Profiles of Emotion Words
Empirical assessment of context-dependent meaning structures of emotion words using semantic profiling (GRID) and cross-cultural analyses.

  • Emotional Expression (FACS)
Expertise in coding and analysis of facial expressions using the Facial Action Coding System (FACS).
