A local care network is being established

The community psychiatry working group is founded at the Social Psychiatric Clinic in Mannheim. From 1975, it becomes the Department of Community Psychiatry at the CIMH. The six employees under the leadership of Dr Niels Pörksen begin to establish contacts with neurologists, health authorities, social and youth welfare offices, associations, the aftercare facilities at Wiesloch State Hospital and other stakeholders and to build up a care network for people with mental illnesses. The community psychiatry approach also became known as the ‘Mannheim model’ and was adopted in many other places in Germany in the following years.
