Together with Heidelberg University’s Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) is hosting a one-day symposium, exploring how physical activity impacts brain health across healthy and clinical populations.

When? 30 September 2025

Where? Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences, Heidelberg University
Im Neuenheimer Feld 700, 69120 Heidelberg

The event is specifically designed to bring together early-career researchers and welcomes participation from experienced researchers from neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, sports science and related disciplines who are working at the intersection of physical activity brain and mental health. While awareness of these connections is growing, structured opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration remain rare.

This symposium aims to foster bottom-up collaboration and peer-led dialogue by creating a space to share ideas, discuss common challenges, and build connections across disciplines. Born from the shared experience of working in fields that do not always speak the same language, the symposium seeks to spark interdisciplinary exchange and new research ideas that cross traditional boundaries.

Behind the event stands an organizing committee of early-career researchers — Lemye Zehirlioglu, Nicole Frisch, Michaela Kroth, Daniela Ramirez Butavand, and Lea Nitzpon — with support from the heiDOCS Doctoral Initiative Grant of the Graduate Academy Heidelberg.
