Ana Zovko is a PhD student on the Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience programme at the University of Heidelberg. She is developing a protocol for hiPSC differentiation into hypothalamic organoids enriched with oxytocin neurons for xenotransplantation into rodent models. This project is a collaboration between the HITBR and the Department of Neuropeptide Research in Psychiatry at the Central Institute of Mental Health, combining stem cell research and systems neuroscience.
Ana obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of J. J. Strossmayer in Osijek and her Master's degree in experimental biology from the University of Zagreb in Croatia. During this time, she worked at the Laboratory for Molecular Neurobiology and Neurochemistry at the Croatian Institute for Brain Research and the Laboratory for Neurodegenerative Diseases (also known as the Laboratory for Neurodegenerative Disease Research) at the Ruder Boskovic Institute, where she investigated neuropathological markers of a heterozygous mouse model of Niemann-Pick type C disease for her Master's thesis. Outside of research, she enjoys the arts, great music, coffee and chocolate.
