Scientists whose work is cited particularly frequently in professional circles and who are considered particularly influential are identified each year in the Highly Cited Researchers ranking. Researchers from the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) in Mannheim are also regularly represented in this ranking. For the second year in a row, Prof. Dr. Dr. Tobias Banaschewski, Medical Director of the Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and Deputy Director of the CIMH, was named a Highly Cited Researcher this year. The list includes scientists whose work is cited particularly frequently internationally and who are therefore considered to be particularly influential.

Award in the Cross Field category

Banaschewski is listed in the Cross Field category. This category recognizes researchers who publish exceptionally well across multiple disciplines and whose work achieves high visibility in various fields. Citations are considered a measure of influence and relevance in science. They show how often colleagues refer to a publication in their own work. Publications from 2014 to 2024 were taken into account for the current list.

Germany ranks fourth worldwide

The prestigious list includes over 7,100 entries from 60 countries. Most are from the US, followed by China and the UK. Germany ranks fourth worldwide with 363 researchers listed.
The annual evaluation is carried out by the US company Clarivate based on its Web of Science database. This covers scientific publications from a wide range of disciplines.
