Marco received his bachelor’s in Bioscience in Rostock after working on hyperexcitability in ALS Clifford Woolf’s lab at the Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He completed his master’s thesis on the 22q11.2 deletion syndrome in the Eggan lab at Harvard University and earned his degree in Neuroscience at the University of Tübingen.
Since joining the Ladewig lab as a PhD student in 2018, Marco’s work focuses on the serotonergic system and how it is involved in the development of the human brain. For this purpose, he is developing a novel model system by using human induced pluripotent stem cells and thereof derived brain region specific cerebral organoids. Outside the lab he enjoys sports, woodworking and sharing good food and drinks with friends.
