About me

The population of oxytocin-synthesising neurons in the rodent brain is relatively small, and direct innervation of distant structures is sparse. Nevertheless, experimental release of oxytocin (OT) in distant structures usually results in robust facilitation of various components of social behaviour. I am curious to know how OT-sensitive local microcircuits in various brain structures (such as the ventral hippocampus, the dorso-medial prefrontal cortex and the entorhinal cortex) are arranged. What types of neurons are they made up of, and do they share any neuroanatomical features?
