Emanuel Schwarz takes over the W3 endowed professorship for Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry in the Clinic of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) and will lead the Hector Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry (HITKIP) founded in April 2023. Under his leadership, the HITKIP will bring together the development of state-of-the-art AI technologies such as machine learning, interpretable machine learning models of dynamic neural systems, and advanced approaches to multimodal data integration into a coherent AI strategy. The goal is to identify disease mechanisms and treatment-relevant effects by analyzing a variety of data to improve clinical care. The HITKIP and the W3 endowed professorship are made possible by a generous grant from the Hector Foundation II.
Elucidating disease mechanisms
Prof. Emanuel Schwarz, Ph.D. has dedicated many years to the development and application of artificial intelligence methods to complex psychiatric disorders. Through his research, he aims to help elucidate disease mechanisms and thus provide the basis for novel diagnostic tools and improved prevention. To this end, his Emmy Noether research group at CIMH developed advanced machine learning approaches for integrative analysis of high-dimensional molecular biological, imaging, and clinical data. This research received, among others, the Chica and Heinz Schaller Foundation Research Award.
